In May 1977, Elton John took the stage at London’s iconic Rainbow Theatre with percussion legend Ray Cooper for a six show residency. These performances were the first of 233 Elton-and-Ray only shows that would follow, and featured the live debut of tracks; “Roy Rogers”, “Cage The Songbird”, “Idol” and “I Feel Like A Bullet (In The Gun Of Robert Ford)“. Initially released on a limited vinyl run for Record Store Day, the album is now available on CD for the first time. The CD edition includes a brand new bonus track “Goodbye” plus the original twelve-song tracklist personally curated by Elton and additional liner notes.

Emily ★★★★★

The sound quality on this CD is surprisingly crisp for a live recording from 1977, and Ray Cooper's percussion really cuts through. I've been playing it nonstop since it arrived.

Avery L. ★★★★★

I had no idea these 1977 Rainbow shows were just him and Ray Cooper, and the percussion really carries the whole thing. You can hear how much space there is without a full band, which makes the piano feel that much more intimate.

Claire W. ★★★★★

I wasn't expecting the percussion to carry so much of the show, but Ray Cooper's playing on this is wild. You can really tell it's just the two of them up there for all six nights.
