Quick answer
Elton John CD box sets bundle multiple albums or rare tracks into one package. The Jewel Box 8CD set is a deep-dive for fans who want B-sides, rarities, and memoir-related songs, while other sets focus on live recordings or early demos.
What makes a CD box set different from a single album?
A CD box set usually contains several discs, a hardcover book, and exclusive packaging like a slipcase. It's a curated collection that often includes rare or previously unreleased material, making it a treasure for collectors.
Are all Elton John CD box sets the same?
No. Some box sets focus on a specific era (like the early 1970s), while others span his entire career. The Jewel Box 8CD, for example, is a career-spanning set that includes deep cuts chosen by Elton, rarities from his early days with Bernie Taupin, B-sides from 30 years, and songs from his memoir. Others might be a single live concert or a themed compilation.
FAQ: Choosing an Elton John CD Box Set
- What comes inside the Jewel Box 8CD?
- It has eight discs: deep cuts chosen by Elton, early rarities from his and Bernie Taupin's start, B-sides spanning 30 years, and songs tied to his memoir 'Me'. It comes in a hardcover book with an outer slipcase.
- How do I know if a box set is right for me?
- If you want to explore beyond the greatest hits, go for a career-spanning set like Jewel Box. If you prefer a single live show or a specific album era, look for a more focused set (e.g., a live concert box or a deluxe edition of one album). Check the tracklist: if it includes many songs you don't recognize, it's likely a deep-cuts set.
- Are CD box sets worth the price?
- They often cost more than individual albums but include exclusive packaging, booklets, and rare tracks. The Jewel Box 8CD is priced at USD 80.15 (catalog comparison USD 109.80), offering a discount over buying the same content separately—if it existed. Compare the per-disc cost to similar single CDs to gauge value.
